Our story

Yak Management wasn't built in a boardroom. It grew organically out of our residential brokerage, Pear NYC.

As we leased apartments and built long-term relationships with Brooklyn landlords, the same request kept coming up: "Could you just manage the whole building?" Owners didn't want another national franchise that treated their property like a line item. They wanted a manager who was responsive, transparent, and personally invested in the outcome — the same way a good broker is invested in a deal.

So we built exactly that. From day one, our principals have stayed directly involved in operations — inspections, tenant communication, maintenance coordination, rent collection, vendor management, owner reporting, and emergency response. That hands-on standard is the whole point of Yak Management.

Where we are today

In roughly four years, our portfolio has grown from about 25–50 units to nearly 400 — multifamily buildings ranging from two-unit properties to roughly 60-unit apartment buildings, primarily across Brooklyn with additional buildings in Manhattan, Harlem, and Queens. That growth has come almost entirely through referrals and owners moving their buildings to us from previous managers.

Collectively, our founding team brings more than 40 years of NYC real estate experience, and our leadership includes licensed New York real estate brokers.

What we specialize in

New York City property management is not a generic business, and we don't treat it like one. Our expertise centers on the areas that matter most in this market:

  • Rent-stabilized and subsidized housing — the core of what we do
  • Multifamily operations for small to mid-sized buildings
  • HPD compliance and violation management
  • Rent stabilization, DHCR registration, and legal lease renewals
  • Leasing backed by a brokerage-grade engine that fills vacancies fast

Our values

Responsiveness. We answer owners the same day when possible and tenants within 24 hours. Most property-management problems are really communication problems — so we over-communicate.

Transparency. Owners get real-time financials and documents through a secure AppFolio portal. No mystery fees, no black-box statements.

Accountability. When something goes wrong at 2 a.m. in January, a principal is on it. We've coordinated multiple simultaneous emergency leaks during a hard freeze and rebuilt trust with tenants who had refused access under prior management — because someone who cares is actually in charge.
